Phillip Fondren

President-Index FX

Introduction

Phillip spent the first 25 years of his career in the institutional side of the foreign exchange and metals markets.  When the retail FX marketplace began to explode earlier this decade, he shifted his focus to that side of the business with the intention of providing his knowledge and expertise to the growing business from individual investors.  What he encountered, however, was an industry that had little regard for traditional foreign exchange expertise.  Instead, the Retail Forex Industry was scrambling to put ‘ease of trading’ into the hands of as many unsophisticated traders as possible.   The results were predictable.  Most ‘retail’ Forex investors lose money.  Phillip’s mission is to help the retail marketplace by promoting a level playing field and REAL educational resources.

Objective

Phillip began his career as a trader, then managing traders and, eventually, in senior management positions with several brokerage and trading firms.  He believes that ‘trading’ is a profession – not a hobby.  If you can’t spend enough time to learn the markets and how to trade them effectively, you have no business trading for yourself.  That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t participate in the markets, however.  There are numerous quality investment programs that are managed by professional traders.  Phillip’s objective and goal – and consequently Index’s objective and goal – is to:

  • Provide quality education, guidance and mentoring to traders who want to become professional Forex traders.
  • Provide quality investment products to those who want to include the foreign exchange markets in their overall investment portfolios but do not have the time or expertise to trade themselves

History

Phillip spent the early part of his career with Shearson Lehman Brothers (1975 – 1987) and served as Executive Vice President and Director of Commodity Services.  Over the next 19 years, he ran trading operations in foreign exchange and precious metals at several U.S. brokerage firms.  Then, in 2006, in partnership with a group of very well known and respected futures market traders and executives, he founded Index FX, now a part of the Index Futures Group.  Using his experience and extensive contacts in the business, he and his colleagues are helping individual investors become more successful by providing them with the same trading tools and expertise used by professional traders.

Licensed by the CFTC since 1976 and a member of the National Futures Association since its inception in 1981, Phil Fondren continues to build on his reputation for integrity and a client-centric approach to the foreign exchange business.
