Objective

Howard enjoys working with his clients individually on the many aspects of trading that it takes to become a successful trader.  Whether it is simply service, making money, risk management, or preserving capital, he believes in offering his clients every opportunity to obtain their goals.  Although he values the speculative aspect of our business, he also takes pleasure in helping his customers build their portfolios on a long term basis.  On the speculative side, markets may act differently at any given time for various reasons.  Howard may recognize such actions before they unfold, then trades and encourages action accordingly.  Often times Howard can set a risk strategy allowing a trader to stay in the most volatile of markets and while protecting equity.  The goal is to help clients preserve and grow their capital with a disciplined strategy.  Howard’s attention to clients and passion for the markets provides a solid foundation for his client/ broker relationships.

Creator of the Chief Guardian Bond Program

Howard is founder of Marella Capital Corporation and a Registered Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA) which trades the Chief Guardian Bond Program.  This trading program was developed by Howard to more effectively meet the needs and goals of his clients. 

History

In his 27 years of experience in the futures industry Howard has been a member and floor trader of both The Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade.  As a Full Service Broker and Market Strategist for over 10 years, he assisted clients with individualized needs by utilizing knowledge acquired through such experiences.  On several occasions, Howard wrote for and was quoted in the Chicago Sun Times and appeared on numerous industry websites.  He was a featured speaker at Futures Expos across the country and also conducted webinars for the CBOT, Eurex and American Association of Individual Investors.  Additionally, Howard provides commentary for BizRadio Network in Chicago, Houston and Dallas and ForexTV and made several appearances on YorbaTV and First Business.  From being a runner on the floor in 1981 to his present position as Chief Market Strategist at Index Futures Group, Howard is in a position to share his well rounded and truly battle tested experiences with his clients. Howard coined the phrases: "Use the markets money as often as possible" and "The market can be irrational a lot longer than you have money."

Market Focus

Major moves and money flow are some of Howard’s main focuses. The treasury markets, S&P 500 and currencies were his pits of choice on the floor. Historical trends in metals, grains, and energies are also valuable focal points. After identifying the markets with the best opportunities, Howard assesses the probability of success and applies an appropriate strategy fitting the client’s investment goals.

Trading Strategies

Over the years, Howard developed several strategies and methods applicable to market groups based upon a combination of signals and market forces.  Adding some simple theories will enhance entry and exit points of most major strategies or studies. Sustaining equity is a major part of his strict risk management approach. Of particular importance to Howard is using option strategies to maintain equity and protect downside risk.

Risk / Money Management View

Correctly managing positions is crucial to creating longevity in the markets.  There are many occasions when a customer may minimize risk while maintaining upside potential. Howard prides himself on keeping many of his customers for years.  Sharing his experiences helps customers learn survival skills necessary for longevity in this competitive business. Diversification is another important factor.  Overall, matching clients trading personalities to the correct product makes all the difference.

Technical and/or Fundamental Focus

Howard uses a combination of weighted indicators and applies them to a market according to cycles, seasons or market interest.  Both technicals and fundamentals factor into long-term strategies.  However, fundamental news is essential to creating opportunity.
